The most important factor when dealing with a flat tire is safety. If you get a flat tire while driving, remain calm. Carefully steer your vehicle to the side of the road and away from traffic. Once you know you can safely change your tire, prepare everything you need. Make sure you are on a flat road and the emergency brake is engaged. Get your spare tire, jack, and tire iron. Don’t forget a flashlight if it’s dark out. Start by using the tire iron to loosen the lug nuts on your tire, as they should be very tight. Don’t remove them completely.

Make sure everything is secure so nothing gets lost in the transfer. Next, you’ll want to line up the spare tire and secure it with your lug nuts.
