Saving for a car

Are you thinking about purchasing a pre-owned Mazda car? Before visiting our Mazda dealership, it’s important to learn about the fees and taxes to anticipate when you finalize your purchase.

Documentation Fee

Also referred to as a doc fee, the documentation fee covers the expenses of gathering the necessary paperwork for a vehicle purchase and filing the sales contract.

DMV Fee

The DMV fee, or vehicle registration fee, covers the cost of registering your new car, assigning a title, and obtaining license plates. You don’t need to worry about handling all of this—our dealership does this for you.

Sales Tax

Sales tax is a certain percentage of your vehicle’s total cost. In New Jersey, the sales tax is 6.625 percent, plus any additional local taxes. One way to lower your sales tax is to trade in your current vehicle. Its value will be deducted from the cost of your new vehicle before the sales tax is calculated. This can often lower your sales tax by a significant amount.

Extended Warranty

An extended warranty is a fee you can choose to add on to cover any repairs or mechanical breakdowns. Ask our dealers about available extended warranty coverage to learn if it will benefit you.

GAP Insurance

GAP, also known as Guaranteed Asset Protection, is a supplemental insurance you can choose to purchase to cover the difference between the financed amount and the car’s value if it were to be stolen or totaled in an accident.
