The 2024 MAZDA CX-5 Goes up Against the 2024 Chevrolet Equinox

2024 Mazda CX-5

If you’re interested in a compact SUV, you might wonder how worthy rivals like the 2024 Chevrolet Equinox compare to the 2024 Mazda CX-5. While the Mazda CX-5 has more legroom in the front row and more cargo space behind its back seats than its competitor, those are far from the only areas in which the SUV located at Sansone Mazda outshines its rival.

Engines

Power is something that separates the Mazda CX-5 from the Chevrolet Equinox. The Mazda SUV is available with two engines, a 2.5-liter inline-four powerplant and a turbocharged 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine. The base engine generates 187 horsepower and 186 lb-ft of torque while the latter unit generates 256 horsepower and 320 lb-ft of torque when it’s fed premium fuel.

By contrast, the Chevy Equinox is only offered with a single engine. This SUV’s powerplant delivers a somewhat paltry 175 horsepower and 203 lb-ft of torque. Whereas all-wheel drive is standard with each of the Mazda SUV’s engines, the Chevy Equinox comes with standard front-wheel drive or optional all-wheel drive. Choosing all-wheel drive drives the cost of the Chevrolet Equinox up.

Standard Equipment

New Mazda vehicles are outfitted with enviable features. While the same can be said for the Chevy Equinox, the Mazda CX-5 simply has more amenities than the Chevy SUV.

As is sometimes the case among competing makes and models, the Mazda CX-5 and the Chevrolet Equinox have some features in common. Here are some of the amenities that both SUVs have:

  • Apple CarPlay® and Android Auto™ connectivity
  • Bluetooth® integration
  • Wi-Fi hotspot
  • Rearview camera
  • Forward collision warning and intervention system
  • Automatic high beams

While both SUVs have an infotainment display, the unit in the Mazda CX-5 measures 10.2 inches, which means its bigger than the seven-inch touchscreen located on the dash of the Chevrolet Equinox. Adaptive cruise control and a blind-spot monitor with a rear cross-traffic alert are standard for the Mazda CX-5.

Drivers who contact our Woodbridge, NJ Mazda dealership are often surprised to learn that they’d have to add a blind-spot monitor to the Chevy SUV’s base trim. They’re even more shocked when they hear that adaptive cruise control is also optional for the Chevy Equinox.
